Pride

When these days are ended
And gently fade away
Will you still remember
The dreams of yesterday.

Or will your heart be hardened
By the bitter pill of pride
To render and to sunder
So that all you’ve loved has died.

And in that place of shadows
Will you not forgive the past
To cleanse your soul of sorrows
And possess your heart at last.

For time is just a river
Where we sail to hidden shores
To board the funeral ships
To the lands of Nevermore.

And pride, how will it serve us
When the best of life is run
And the rose is all but withered
At the sinking of the sun.

So part your pride for pardon
While the rose is still in bloom
For love has no tomorrow
When the heart is in the tomb.
