He had become unsettled by the sea

He had become unsettled by the sea,
Longing to go and quietly steal away,
To seek the tides of change, of what may be
And find that place where water holds no sway.
For what he sought he knew not of himself
Had made him come but only of the change,
That as a lamp that waits upon the shelf,
Is lit to what is beautiful and strange.
He knew not where but let his footsteps stray,
To meet the soil he dreamed of in his mind,
And fashioned something new from hardened clay,
Within himself he saw his life defined.
On lands that held no favour or no gate,
He found the hidden world and chanced to fate.
