Now twenty winters

Now twenty winters have slipped away
Since you fled this world to the stars above.
I look toward heaven and often pray
That the brightest stars would show me my love.
The fickleness of life that wax and wanes
Like snowflakes falling in the winter sun.
Our love that blossomed had so short a reign
And died so quickly ere its time had run.
But even as the years between us grow
And memories I have of you may fade.
I will always in my heart, forever know,
my love for you will never be betrayed.
For though your heart beneath the cold frost lay,
It will beat for me forever and a day
